As a short mental exercise, try to imagine your favorite album. Think of the songs and the artist at the time of release. Now think of the person you were during that time. How old were you? What were you doing during that time period? For most people, the answer to this question would be that their favorite album and artist all were relevant during their teen years. This shows a clear importance of the teen years in people lives and thus their collective culture. Because most people's favorite things are formulated in their teenage years, their identity is that of the person they were during their teen years. With this, modern culture is made up of people who identify as their teenage self, thus making culture, teen culture.
